On the evening of October 4, 2001, the carrier initiated the first strike of Operation Enduring Freedom against al-Qaeda in Afghanistan from the North Arabian Sea. The vessel measures 1,092 feet in length and can accommodate up to 90 fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters.
